My 11' SXR kinda did the same thing the past two seasons. It was not from 1/2 throttle to full. It was more like 3/4 to full. I checked the spark plugs and they were dark brown-ish.

For me, the stock grate and ride-plate with straight cutout works great for general riding, sliding, and wake jumping.

I ride by myself most of the time because there is hardly any stand-up riders at my local lake. I would just drive down to D/FW area to ride with my crew. When I'm riding alone, I don't tend to do some stunt that you can easily get hurt. It's a good idea to stay near your ramp or drop-off point...

Honestly, I believe the FX-1 will be a good choice for you since you love the way how the 550sx rides. I have rode a SXR, SN, RN, FX-1, 650sx, and js440.

I had my headpipe and manifold powdered glossy black. 5 months later, they still looks great and shiny with no chipping. The stock head too.
