Less width will be less pop out of the water..... who know's, Yamaha probably will say its for racing.

Edit: Just noticed on the other site they are talking about an addition of a 4-stroke SJ by next year.

Those dingdongs have been saying 4Stroke SXR's and SJ's are coming next year for five years.

I think there is one "dingdong" that is always wrong. Yamaha does have a 4 stroke SJ but I have said all along that it won't be released in its current 4 cylinder state. I doubt they will make a special 2 cylinder 4 stroke engine just for the SJ.

The video on the yamaha web site says...

"A new wider race inspired hull allows for better hook up"

I thought super jets were so great because they didn't hook up. They are stunt skis. No?

Why not make a freestyle inspired hull? That's why your selling them!

Someone post a ride report

So, my much loved and many, many hours ridden 96 SJ is a bit battered, but mechanically sound.

Would the new one be a worthwhile upgrade ? Or does this wannabe freerider just keep rebuilding the old one.

The real problem for selling these is that they have to be near indestructable to just survive, so they don't wear out like a car or cycle. They are simple to fix and most of us can do it.

I'd buy a real 4 stroke effort-but if they just do a few minor things, or set it up for closed course, I can keep reworking the round nose SJ.

this is the sales problem....sea couch guys buy and trade in like car guys do, but the standup guy is more like a Harley rider or Ducati rider...the cycle is a starting point, almost a kit....not a finished product.

Standups are like that....we all mod and wrench them, and no one part breaking means "toss it away". If it breaks, well that's an opportunity to upgrade it !

Someone get one of these wet please !!!!!!!

This sj is going to surprise most of you. It still feels like a superjet until you throw it into a turn and drag your asscheeks on the water. It still beckons you to play.

So why didnt Yamaha use the Nanoxel tecnolegy in this new hull? Dont they pay any freeggin attention to what we want?

Dont worry they used this in there largest new FX SHO.... 25% lighter/stronger

Hey guys I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the nano bandwagon. There was a bare hull at the premier and it was definitely lighter but it was very flimsy. I personally don't think that it is going to hold up to what the SHO is going to put it through. Feels like a thin plastic that is going to stress and break.

I don't think in stands a chance in stock class racing but should make a nice surf boat. I'll stay green

Perhaps you should look at the stock class rules. Rules allow the addition of aftermarket exhaust in the superjet to compensate for the lack of displacement and hp according to Watkins. You should ride the hull before you label it as inferior to the Kawi. The handling IS there!

Front sponsons, setback pump, trim friendly, shorter pole, still a 2 stroke, I think Yamaha might be listening.
I'm sure they would do more but the bean counters are always watching.

I think the RN-2.0 is a nice step forward so go out and buy them. That way I can get my hands on a nice used one next year.:cheer:

I always look to surfing and sailboarding to gauge if we are going in the right direction... As far as freeride goes...

I really think the narrow rear will be bad for surf.. Look at how Freestyle Boards are shaped... they are always short and fat... The setback pump will be awesome and the adjustable trim will be cool too... I am up in the air about it right now...
