My point was that at 165HP, it was considered a time bomb.
Someone in this thread mentioned 170HP+ motors. I am confident I wouldn't want that reliability nightmare.

You forget they are doing Long arse WOT runs on those skis...like for miles. We don't do that. We basically baby the motors compared to what sitdowns do.

I would bet with a light flywheel and a little compression it would RIP. 130HP stock? That is plenty allready for me.

I know my SXR is probably at 115 right now, with my compression at 155 and my pipe and light flywheel. (Thats all I got)

Uh... 115?

What do you have done to that ski?

A wet pipe and an aluminum flywheel, R&D Head, flowcontrol valve. The WetPipe adds about 30 hp. It comes stock with 80hp...so that's my guess???? Really just guessing
Do you think it is low or high? I have no idea....

(oops, Wetpipe only adds 25 so I guess I am at about 110? Damn, that 951 will add 20+ horsepower to my modded ski and that is stock!!!! )

im not sure i believe all those hp claims on factory pipes
and i sure as hell dont believe that a stock sxr has 80hp
they may say it does but i bet its closer to 72

The RXX was a time bomb. Just like any other built race boat. The 951 motor by it's self is a pretty good motor. Once BRP figured out how to minimize the water intruision on the XPL's the reliability went up.

reasons to do it is that miller builds a 1050 big bore kit, add a TL ignintion, and a pipe. with 190 psi. that would be a crazy nice setup IMO. that is what i would put in my superjet or the sled version with electrionic semi direct fuel injection.
look at pwc for some 1050 big bore motor shortblocks for around 1100.00

the racer guys have been modding these motors for years and i search and found some hp claims of 200+ cool ass motors if we can get them to work for freestyle.

wow, if I can get a 1050cc for 1100 Im in. lets see some weight comparisons.

The aluminum flywheel isn't adding any hp.... and who says the wet pipe adds 30hp? The dry pipe only adds 27.

hmmmmmmmmm But what if, by having the lighter flywheel the motor can pick up another couple of hundred RPM's, hmm, I wonder if that could add some HP. Kinda the benifit of racers running total loss. Lighter flywheel for faster revs and increased/controllable timing and spark.

That is the same logic that 66e owners have......:tapedshut: Ask Waterdawgs or superramjet. The 66e has been in development for years and the promise land is always over that next hill. I think the 66e is better suited for freestyle right now b/c of the parts developed specifically to make it better suited for freestyle.

I have been on 951's, mildly built and stock. My observation was that the motor just did not feel snappy enough down low to be used for freestyle. Unless highly modified. The same can be said for the 66e in the gp. They have distinctive powerbands that come on like light switches in the mid rpm range. I think you really have to drop the coin on a pipe, MSD TL, higher compression and a light crank in order to make the motor a viable option.

DJ, My honest opinion is to buy a envy or trinity sxr hull. You will drop a ton of weight, keep your current motor reliablity and avoid all the hastle of the swap.

They had that figured out by the time the RXX came around.

Changing ignition timing does add HP, and allows you to run higher compression down low, making more power down low.

Also, the lighter flywheel drops rotational mass off the motor, meaning the motor has to perform less work (waste less energy) on getting itself moving.
Result? More HP at the pump.

but that is not what neccessarily made it a time bomb. The fact of it being a race boat does........ Just like any race boat that is not stock....

Even with constant care and tweaking they sometimes let go.

KMAC's SXR Limited let go again for the 2nd time in 3 years at the nationals. And his was not raced very much at all this year nor ridden. Chit happens.

allright...this is dumb. :261:

Does anyone have any sound reasons as to why I should or should not run a 951 in my ski?

You can barely keep a mild limited sxr engine running which is easy compared to 951 engine.:eek5: Have you ever looked inside a kawidoo? :Eyecrazy:
That's alot of custom stuff that needs to be made and figured out.
