meh...I am only putting an hour in here or there. I have so many things going on in my life that I am just using this as kind of an escape. I have done something pretty similar with my first build so I might have had a better idea of what to expect. I don't think I'll be done with mine until like May. I'll be stoked if I get it done sooner like Jan or Feb because the baby is due in March so I could get a ride or two in prior as I know this season is gonna be light on the riding side for me.

So ...did you not wetsand? I am guessing not..due to the rash. Sorry man...I could have saved you that rash. BTW...I am doing some work for Sierra Nevada today..I see you are in Chico.

Yeah I should have wetsanded.. I started off wearing full coveralls then got more relaxed about it to the point of no shirt... I do continue to wear the mask though. :D Are you in Chico? If you are I will take you out for a beer. We could also take the wb1 to the lake.

This pictures sums up my feelings on this project perfectly:

No I am in Mesa, Arizona...I got to attend Beer Camp a few years ago at Sierra Nevada and really enjoyed my time in Chico. Got to go to some cool bars and meet some great ppl.

I sanded a bit last night and didn't wet sand and could already see my skin getting irritated. No shirt ...oh man...bad news...don't do that again. I really have little to no clue what I am doing either accept if I have done something a little similar one time before..ie building foothoolds and glassing them in. Plus I repainted my entire hull. I think my rear chop looks pretty crappy right now and Its not totally even so I figure this is going to be a long long time of filling, sanding, repeat...and I haven't even started the tray.

Like I said an hour here or there. No deadline....just keep on plugging.

Procrastination paid off a little yesterday. My dads shop remodeled the bathroom (handicap accessible now) Anyway he brought me a bunch of Polyisocyanurate they pulledout of the wall. So I am going to foam with this instead.
Polyisocyanuratefoam has the highest R-value per inch (R-6.5 to R-6.8) of any rigid insulation. This type of rigid foam usually comes with a reflective foil facing on both sides, so it can also serve as a radiant barrier in some applications. Polyiso board is more expensive than other types of rigid foam.

what in the world is that? I have never even heard of it. So I made a little progress. In between web design work, a brake job, shoveling 3 tons of gravel, family gatherings, care taking for my grandparents and taking a buddy out for a beer on his b day I laid a little resin thickened with a ton of Cabosil to get the curvature correct on the hull chop. Funny thing is I used really heavy cloth only 2 layers on the inside but I have a ton of this thickened resin now on the back. The great thing is the Cabosil weights next to nothing once mixed in with the Resin the rear is gonna be hard as a rock when I am done.

The only odd thing I see (and I have seen it on other skis skis) is that my foot holds are so large (Waterdawg holds) that in order to make them work right they are going to be under where the old tray line was. In fact they will be level with the pump so I can glass right to that point. Just seems weird but I will have indentions for m feet in the tray. Like I said I have seen it before but I wasn't planning on it.

Omg do not use crap Home Depot foam for the foot tray lol..
Lol?
It doesn't absorb water. That's why you use it. The two part will absorb water. Only way to go unless you go the epp foam route which is more expensive.
Why wouldn't you use it?

What Rosend said. The foam in the tray is not for support. It is to displace water.

Polyisocyanurate Is like the pink foam at home depot but stronger.

Does it come in sheets? How are you using it. Everyone I have spoken with tells me its not worth the time to cut all of the pieces. That the pour foam is the way to go.

I know you have already cut all of the pieces out so you can use them as templates if you have to recut (I am guessing you do).

It'll just take a little more time, and the pour foam soaks up water.. It's not worth going through the effort of defoaming just to have to refoam again when your new foam gets wet. You use that inch or so thick sheet foam, stack it however you want, and use drain plugs. You'll never have a perfectly sealed hull. Small amounts of water will get in. I'd rather do it right the first time, because defoaming sucks. Search foam on here using title only, and go through and read. The majority of builds here use it, so do a little searching.

It comes in sheets just like the pink stuff but it is black. I have some two part foam that I might use on top of it or for around the foot holds. I am not sure yet. I keep my ski insurance for 3k during the summer. I think it cost around 11$ a month. So if she sinks hopefully the insurance company will pay me without to much hassle.

Hmm...well maybe I'll just man up and cut the foam. Sigh...Pita...this project just keeps on growing.

I might start a thread soon. Quince did you do the poor mans scupper?

If you already bought the two part good luck cutting the other stuff. It sucks and you will want to say f-it and use the two part. I would have it I had it...

No scupper, although I was checking out the duck bill ones. Right now I am leaning toward running a Rule 360 continues and a 1000gph automatic johnson bilge pump. both would be on separate connections in case one failed.

Quick question for you guys, when you measure out your epoxy do you do it by weight or volume? Also what do you use for a dual cooling/trim line? I am thinking about adding an extra line through the hull now in case I decide to add trim one day or use the stock bilge again. I am thinking 1/2" pvc or should I use something else?

That is why you have insurance! :D
Yeah true, but going through losing a ski would still be a horrible experience. Doing all the work again, etc. Have you done the hood mod yet? Remove stock liner, make a new one, get a good hood seal, a ratchet hood strap, and you shouldn't take in much water..Nothing two bilge pumps can't handle for sure.
Check out verisplugs if you're going to do a scupper, or run a one way valve underneath the tray(like the home depot cheap method) and then a scupper flap on the end. Much more expensive, but more reliable.. I'm still going to run a modded hood, ratchet strap, watcon hood seal, dual bilges(1200 gph and possibly an 800). I'm not worried :p

Epoxy wise.. By volume. Put in 3 ounces of resin, 1 ounce of hardener, etc. Easy & quick. I'm using the pumps that come with it, but I measure it with my eyes and the lines on the cup..
You could weigh it, that's what I heard tom21 say once i think? Scale will be a couple bucks, but super accurate. I don't see how using the marks on a container isn't super accurate either though. Just whatever works as long as you get the ratio right.
Trim line: I'd think pvc would work, and I just looked up cooling line: 3/8 OD stainless tubing about 20-24 inches long.

Reinforced Blowsion hood with handholds. Weighs about 10% more then a stock hood, but at least it shouldn't break when I am leaning rolls. :)

Yeah and it probably has a good modded hood liner, right? Then you're golden! But deff get a ratchet strap, then you'll be more than golden.
