Starting to get the carbs dialed in. The entire time Ive thought the bottom was running really rich. 120 lows seem very high to me. Ended up turning the lows out 2.5 turns (on the OEM fine thread needles) and the ski woke up.

So since I'm already at 2 turns out on the high just to stay a decent color I'm gonna move from 120/120 up to 125/125 low and high jets. I figured with a 2.3 seat id be flowing tons of fuel even at 120. Oh well.

Cracks are still enlarging. I Carbon project needs to happen soon, as well as new air intakes. OEM hood doesnt do well to prolonged submerges....

Dang Fox!!! :swordfight:Do you have any earthly idea how many times I hear that from people???? It's been less than 24 hours ya know (and I even diverted from Pismo pics for you)!!!

Went to the lake yesterday…finally tried Fox’s “550” and WOW!!! :woot:

It really IS a monster powerhouse, yet it is exceptionally nimble and extremely light feeling compared to my sj...I love how it balances and turns for me!! Planning to ride it again on Saturday…can’t wait! :cheer:

DJ, you were right I believe :purr::purr::purr:…that’s an extreme difference for me personally! I wish to ride a stock (or close to it) FX1 soon! I’m already looking into it, although jumping the gun perhaps (I don't think so though): http://pwctoday.com/f65/fx-1-skis-210937.html

What does a 550 weigh?
What does an FX1 weigh?
What does my SJ weigh?

Props on your invention Fox, it rocks…AND is WAY too loud for this lake until you get a bigger waterbox!!!:cussing: I definitely wish to try it out in some surf as soon as you reinforce it…I think it will be GREAT for it, if it holds together, HA!! :poke:

Here are a few pics, but you were too far out for my current lense. I like the last three in the second post coming though…so typical (nut, lol, you make me laugh more than anyone)!

Id snag those fx1s up in a heartbeat!

average weights seem to be something like this.

550 - 220-240 lbs
fx1 - 250-270 lbs
SJ - 300-320 lbs

I know my empty hull weighed in at 80lbs, and I expect that to go up 7-10 lbs after reinforcement.

...well friggin eh, no wonder!!! I would like to ride one before I buy one. I rode one at Wavedaze last year, but only briefly, and the water was so cold that day I was even trying not to get wet, lol, so it wasn't a real test (I liked it though). Someone on that other site wishes everyone to believe there is a pending sale, although the owner has not spoken up. It could be "Mr. Toilet" on this site, and he is a very nice person, so I wouldn't wish to step on his toes (yet, lol...jj). Thanks for the info!

Suz enquire if you want them. He buys and resells anyway, you want it for personal use.

You know what they say... all is fair in love and war. You just might not know you love those skis yet...

A few of the beach runs. It gets knocked about in the surf pretty damn easy.
I'm much more comfortable in the buoys.

:cheer:So GREAT to see you out in surf Fox!!! Don’t give up…you’ll get use to it! Tweak it some…after riding it that last time when it was rather windy, I kinda thought it might need a little something more for surf (no idea what of course). Fix it!

Hey Fox, didn't you say you were looking into adding tubbies on it?

Wouldn't that make it handle better in the surf?

So heres the ever constant continuation of the project.

Stripped all the paint, down to the SMC on the bottom. Found a couple spider cracks where the motor seemed to pulling at the hull, but otherwise no big surprises.

550s are pretty damn unstable, turns out with big power they are even more unstable. So I decided to make it more stable.

On go my repaired tubbies.

This time around, instead of mounting them parallel to the bottom of arch of the hull I mounted them parallel and flush to the bond line lip. This left about 1" to the hull line. I mounted them as far forward as possible.... which on this small hull also means as far back as possible. Theres not much room for variation since I have front exhaust.

I'm hoping this will allow deeper carves without bottoming out in the turn.

Alright, so since the bottom will be getting the full glass and carbon treatment I figure I might as well have a trick up my sleeve. Since the tubbies will grab in the turns I might as well make the hull track better at top speed and not want to wash out as much.

Four 1/4 Dowels, glue, and bondo later....

Almost done with one. Have a little more filler and sanding to do, but you get the idea. 1/4" deeper chines, with steeper walls should channel a lot more water. Hopefully it will make it ride a little more like an FX-1 and a little less like a overpowered bottle rocket.

Well its a vicious cycle. I cant move my tubbies because of my exhaust, and I cant put my exhaust through the tubbies because I'm running a huge Limited chamber and hoses dont bend that tight. Oh, now that I actually have it out of the hull I'll have to go grab a picture of the waterbox I made just to show you how small I had to make it to have it fit.

And yea.... I did a lot of thinking off that jap boat, but unfortunately I'm trying to build what hes done with 1/10th the budget. Thats a custom splash and 100% new hull. Mine is 2 hulls spliced together...

I built up the strakes on my old 650 SX once with Marine Tex putty. It all chipped off... :(

But since you are covering the whole bottom, you should be ok. I never really noticed much of a difference in handeling. I did notice a difference from shimming my ride plate down in the rear. Made the ski pitch you off a lot more.
