Chp took my ski

The fact that he won't involve the previous owner or a lawyer, sends the message that the ski may be stolen, I am sure a judge will see it the same way.

kinda agree on that. He says he doesnt want to go after the original owner and I can respect that. The least the original owner could do is show up to court and help your case.

I didnt see that part, but if thats the case your boned. kiss the ski goodbye and bend over for the fine, cause its gonna hurt.

What ever happened to innocent until PROVEN GUILTY? The cop has the burden of proof and there is No proof that it's stolen. maybe he needs to face a fine for the Hin tag removal but I think after they can't prove that it's stolen he should get the ski back. If he can't I think he needs to sue the state for discrimination or something. If he were a liberal black illegal immigrant on welfare he would win millions

only a lawyer will walk you out of this and it won't cost that much, much less than $4k you stand to lose .why did you not give the name of previous owner to chp when he asked?then you claim is a friend of yours and you don't know his last name or tel# right after having spoken to him.
having pics and letters from people will not help your cause until a lawyer is presenting them.if a judge actually listens to your arguments then you are one lucky sob and need to play the lotterie that day!

10 days has long since passed, why hasn't the ski been crushed?

Something is missing here. None of this makes sense. Maybe it really is "Because California" but this whole thread gives me tired head.

The only reason I keep checking in on the thread just to see if its been crushed because its pretty clear to me OP isn't going to take the steps suggested or necessary to actually get his ski back.

Yeah i work part time and dont make poop for money. I understand I need a lawyer but the bottom line is i cant afford one. I wish i could. And all im doing or can do at this point is hand the motion of reconsideration to the clerk. If the judge grants me a second court date i will try my best to get a lawyer, most likely going to have to borrow money from my grandpa. But tomorrow morning im turning in the papers and then its a waiting game. And that josh guy is like a old mutual friend with the friends that were with me when my ski was taken. I wasnt going to sit there and explain my relationship with the cop to full extent i just labeled im as a friend. As long as the judge is reasonable to the slightest extent i think i have a good chance of getting my ski back. I now have HARD PROOF showing that what the cop told the judge was not accurate one bit.

I'm betting it's already crushed and all this is moot. The court has already made it's ruling and the system carries on like clockwork.
OCD, this isn't Canada. You are probably used to efficient programs run by people with a brain :) The government agencies in the US are run by a bunch of lazy half educated people who work harder to not work than they would if they just did their job. There is no "clockwork" in agencies here, just clock punchers who don't work lol.

If it was impounded and is at the CHP's compound then I agree, you have years to file an appeal, but if it was taken to a holding facility at a wrecking yard, that bitch will be crushed minutes after the 10 day hold expires.

And further to the point you made, you could spend months or years in the appeal process, finally be awarded custody after spending thousands to get your ski back, only to find that it was actually crushed back on day 11.

When it comes to destroying things...they are always on time.

@OCD Solutions My 10 days since i got the mail would technically be Monday. But im going a couple days early tomorrow. If they already crushed the ski, (which they wont, they're gunna draw a name out of a hat out of the chp office to own it) then they would have to pay me what the ski is going for online. @CRJ There isnt even a single fine being brought upon me... Apparently even if i went into the courthouse and admitted i stole the ski it would be irrelivent to what im being charged for, which is tampering with the vins.

I hope that was a joke. They have made their decision to impound it based on the idea that the HIN's have been tampered with and the actual ID of the ski cannot be determined, but yet they can draw names out a hat and claim it for themselves? That is some BS right there!

Cops here throw their impounded skis in a dumpster and have them hauled to the dump. But the truck driver knows a guy that parts out skis, so he drops it off at his house instead. That guy makes money selling what was deemed stolen. The system is crooked.
