I tik we should add at least one more dutch 2 the batch! I will bring at least 2 count 10" and one 12" just to have around.. Don't forget there may be some 60 - 70 people.. Hell when go camping 10 - 15 peps can take out a 10" & 12" batch!

On your 12" - how many cans/size fruit do u use.. when I make basic cobbler without box cake mix I use a rule of:

8" dutch 1 can fruit + 1 cup rule
10" 2 cans fruit + 2 cup rule
12" 3 cans + 3 cup / etc..

you making a 10" / 12"
I will do the same.. a 10" / 12"

I have some peach cans with raspberry flavor and some peach cans with brown sugar/cinn. flavoring.. ** any ideas on a good cake mix to use on these.. something other then what u are using! (just what are u using ???)

When camping solo a lot in the mountains I used a simple cup of this and that rule.. cup self raising flr, cup of sugar (never used the whole cup, cup of milk, stick of real butter (used less), salt, cinn, vanilla, etc..

ps: o yes - a cherry for moondance!

I think that everybody got as much as they wanted last Sep and I had just my 2 ovens (10 and 12) w/3 cans fruit in the 12 and I don't remember if I did 2 or 3 in the 10 (either works fine). Each got a full cake mix and the secret spices and butter. I'm planning blueberry w/lemon cake for the 12 and apple w/spice cake for the 10.

Peach would be good with spice, lemon, yellow or white cake (oh, or orange) as long as you add some cinnamon, maybe a bit of allspice, to the cake and maybe the fruit depending on if you have canned peaches or peach pie filling. The cherry I did last fall also went over well and I had yellow cake with that as I recall.

I think we had about 40 or so people hittin' the cobbler on the beach. We had a fish fry, then folks spread out some, so I don't think everyone ate cobbler. I just started the cobbler after the bonfire was lit. There was time for supper to settle a little before desert.

If we wanted to be absolutely certain to have plenty, 4 ovens would cover us, I'm pretty sure. 3 might, 4 would. And 4 flavors is definitely enough.

I take it you have all the supplies/equipment you need? We'll be camping on the beach with the toyhauler, so look for us. We should be getting there Thu pm late, or early Fri am.

Then I shall do a orange and lemon.. Bringing cinn, vinalla, sugar, oil, long handle shovel, garden hand shovel, dutch oven top handle, etc...

As of the last 10 yrs are so I have just been using HEB can fruit in light s.. Not pie filling cans!

Have a few long stem temp probes to check that the ovens aren't too hot under.. those fire coals can fool u...

ps: Mr Peguin - its 12 @ 1" for u! in a cup cake pan.. don't think there will be much room for fruit! :grumble: :smokin:

I'll bring both tables, then. It is sooooo much easier to use a table you will be pleasantly surprised if you've never used one. No more constant leaning over, reduces sand/dust in the oven (we have a rowdy bunch).

And I'm a big believer in real butter for the topping. I really like to use a pastry blender to cut the butter in, gives it a better texture to the crust. Don't worry, I keep one in the trailer now. It's crazy what I'll never "camp" without, now that we have the toybox.

Moondance

Just plain me....
ok Sandman...You & me gotta talk. Thank goodness for posts being quoted. I don't care how "big" you got...there just better be a cherry cobbler somewhere in the mix.:439:

And Mick...you just don't EVEN need to stir the pot:smashfreakB:

Thank you. I expect we'll need at least 3-4 heads of leaf lettuce and maybe a couple dozen tomatoes depending on size. You might ask Stacey how many she got last year fall (or whoever brought them last year) and go from there. I expect to have more people show this March than last Sep. We had around 50 then with around 30 confirmed before hand. We have at least 50 confirmed so far, so around 70ish? (I think.) If at least 75% want tomato and average 4-5 slices per tomato, we need at least a dozen as rock bottom number of tomatoes and better to allow for extra.

I am pretty sure I brought 3 heads of lettuce and 12 or so tomatoes and onions.

Sharon, you can put me down for whaterver isn't taken on the list. If you can think of anything else, just let me know.
