I have a Springfield xds in .45 that i have had zero issues with but its at Springfield right now for a recall maybe i just got lucky

The XD is a imported Croat gun. Springfield has been making high quality firearms in the US for a lot of years. Still in business for a reason. I'm curious about OCD's experience with them that would make him sway away.

Nothing against Springfield, it's just not on my radar at the moment. I was a big fan of Ruger to start and now I'm hung up on the Beretta.

Each new gun causes a rift between me and my wife so I'm picking my battles carefully and If I'm gonna start something right now, it's gonna be over a Beretta 92FS INOX.

Iwas told to get a really stiff belt to put my holster on. How does that belt work for you?

I'm diggin it. Not super stiff. They sell a very stiff one too. I opted for the standard one.

I'll probably buy the same belt in coyote/tan eventually.

Ocd are you not the king of the castle?

Our household is a democracy, not a dictatorship.

I took a $30k/yr paycut earlier this year when I changed jobs which greatly affected how much we put into savings each month. We will be selling our house and moving to Savannah in the next couple months so she is in full saving mode. Any expense right now is considered frivolous.

P. S. My wife never says no, it always, not right now

Shot my xd today in the idpa match , found it to be a lot of fun. First shot right out of the gate my gun fed 2 rds and jammed no issues other than that for me . Saw my dad take a ricochet to th forehead which drew blood. When that buzzer goes off its the strangest adrenaline rush I have ever had. Its not like when you hit a huge wave or boat wake. Way different, mind freezes up hard to think, count your rounds etc. Had a guy explain tactical order you had to shoot in and then told me why he would start from o ne side and work across. When that buzzer went off I forgot the order and ended up having to go back and hit a target I had already hit one time so I wouldn't get penalized. Lots of fun heavy emphasis on safety and got to hang out with my dad so good day all in all. Zhot about 120 rds , most centerfire I have shot in a while. Would definitely recommend trying it if there is one in your area.

That's awesome Mark, sounds like a rush. I wonder if it would be practical to try that with a 1911 (8rds total) or if I would be better served with a double stack gun? I'd like to try it.

I bought a gun belt 5 years ago when I started carrying. I never, ever... use it. I wear web style belts most of the time. Cheap, with the slide style buckle. (Boy scouts, or military issue style.) Never had a problem, even when I occasionally wear a slim dress belt, except the dress belt gets chewed up because of the holster clips.
Gun goes in and comes out of the holster without issue. I carry iwb...

just my .02

One of the guys in my group shot a 1911 and he did awesome. Had to reload more often. But he did it. He was a veteran shooter and it showed. He helped me out quite a bit. They posted the times today and I realized how bad I really did. I had 3 failure to neutralize targets which are 10 second penalties. Stupid mistakes that add up to big time penalties. My dad placed two ahead of me, he concentrated on being mistake free but it comes at the price of being slower. Slow iz fast though and we are doing one next month and I hope I can keep my head and remember all the stuff I practice.

I may have to try to something like that. I love shooting and I love guns but It's a struggle to justify getting back into it just to go to the range and shoot paper. My wife doesn't understand the fascination because she finds shooting paper just as boring as me but I know that if we could do stuff like the idpa match, she would love it and get into it as much as me.

I don't like the match idea near as much as just having access to run and shot but it sounds like you picked up a lot of valuable tips and information, even in an event setting.

What holster did you use in the competition? I've been looking at the Blackhawk Serpa CQC and tactical thigh series.

Funny you ask about a holster, I used the xd gear holster which doesn't work for me because I am left handed.our group range officer felt sorry for me so he let me shoot from low ready position. Every gun shop I have che ked at doesn't sell left handed holsters. I have got to get one before my necessary Match but I hate to order one and then not like it. Also if you have a holster with a retention strap over gun they make you use it since that's how the holster comes. Ocd take your wife to a match its really been like finding the spark I have been missing with pistol shooting for me for the first time in 3 years almost I am actually excited about shooting my pistols. Plus now I can't wait to try and cut down my time and cut out all my penalties.

Thats interesting, my wife is super competitive, I bet she'd get into that as well. Something for us to do during the winter. Don't get too down on yourself, its your first time. If you did awesome, you wouldn't look forward to improving!

How do you check on status with atf online? I have been waiting 3 months so far and they told me the other day it could be another 12 months!

You can't check the status online, but the forms are now submitted online. You still have to call in to see where you are at. I just meant that everything had been received by the ATF and that the application was being processed. From what I've read, prior to the online submission, your paperwork could sit in a pile for months waiting for a paper shuffler to actually move what was on the forms into the system before it was even looked at to be potentially approved. Sorry for the poor wording.

Yeah, hoping for February is probably way too optimistic, but when it gets here, it gets here. And with our current government, it wouldn't surprise me if they moved responsibility of "verification" to a part time employee working 1 hour a month. "That will teach the NRA a lesson!"

Im not down on myself at all, just cant wait to see how i can improve. Luckily I know a guy who knows a guy that can get me ammo for reasonable prices so I wo t have to destroy my stash shooting. I'm trying to talk my wife into going to the next one but she is freaked out by the thought of the rest of the group watching her shoot. I think k she will enjoy herself if she goes but if not I still get to hangnout with my dad at least

Blackhawk made overseas and it shows. Had a Serpa years ago,it lasted about 30 minutes in my situation. Much better American choices, albeit a little more $. 1911's are great choices for the "practiced" shooter, and teaches the "unpraticed" the inherent downfalls of an SAO firearm that is not trained with often. Lower capacity is not a hindrance at all to the praticed shooter. Glad ya had fun and learned how important "training" can be for effective deployment of any firearm.

I personally prefer Bianchi and Galco. I currently use neither as needs and purpose have changed. All Eagle Industries and High Speed Gear now. Ive had some Eagle Industries stuff coming up on 20 years. Never and issue, everyone talks about "warranty" around here,Eagle is lifetime not limited to original purchaser, nice to not have to use a warranty imo
