My home away from home.
As soon as the last run was over I went shopping with the wife. Wasn't interested the scores much as everybody sees things differently.

I was SO stoked to see a lot of the rides, tricks and combos. Awesome event in my book.

All judging drama aside, hats off to all the riders rippin it and also for the inspiration!!

Never said he deserved to win. WOW you guys do not read! All I said, is that it is crazy that the one judge(to keep it short for you non readers) gave Lucas an 8.2, gave the 11 yr old kid a 7.7 and Alex a 7.3. that's it! All I said.
I believe I quoted Voila in my post, so I don't know where this came from unless your the same person with multiple accounts. Hahaha

what I dont understand is that both Lucas and DK did the same trick with diff variations. How boring. Alex did diff tricks. He did a superflip in a competition. man. I think alex got robbed.
So he was robbed, but didn't deserve to win?

OK Kahuna, you're a judge at a freestyle competition. What are you looking for? You telling me that a guy who combos a helicoptor, roll, flip, underflip, flip, flip wont score big on your sheet?
I posted earlier what I look for. And, Yes, I have judged several times.

1. Number of tricks attempted.
2. Difficulty of tricks attemped. And Reptitive. If I see a back flip you get scored. If you pull off two more, I dont count them as much. Same for Rolls. one or two is ok. After that, your wasting your time.
3. How well each trick was executed. (If a extremely difficult trick is attempted I will weigh that against how the rider actually executed it., But Landing the trick and riding away is important)
4. Time management - Did the rider use his time wisely or did he ride around alot looking for the perfect water condition (See #1)
5. And this is the most important one (To Me) How did the run look. Did it flow smooth going from one trick to another or did the rider throw a trick and then wait for the water to clear to attempt another or did he land a trick and then instantly start setting up for the next.
6. Combo's - Did the rider attempt any combo tricks or transitions. (Bulldog onto the hood, then ride away, then pull any hood spins {180 slides), and then transition into a fountain) or tricks like a 50/50 (Ball breaker into a monkey jump = 2 tricks in one)
7. Did the rider look like he was having fun or was he struggling. If the rider is having fun, most likely he his nailing his tricks or doing the best he can and knows it. If the rider is chasing his routine it is not gonna flow, execution is not going to be well.

So, to answer your question, yeah, I will give that competitor good points if he pulls that combo off, even if he blows it on the last trick of that string of Combo's. But if every trick after that (If he were to pull that first) he was blowing it then his over all score will be effected. Bottom line, from Second 1 to Second 120 I look at how the rider used his time. If he pulls a huge Superflip and nails it, Pulls Huge Underflip and Pulls a huge Backflip combo (Flip, Roll Flip) and that is all and another rider pulls off a Back Flip(and barely gets the nose in but rides away), Barrell Roll, Hood Combo, Nose Stab, Helicopter, No Handed Roll/No Hander Lander, Double Trouble (2 consecutive rolls), Bulldog into a Fountain and finishes with a big throw. If he executed well and his run flowed he would most likely beat the guy that did the superflip, Underflip and Backflip Combo. (yeah, overall these are more difficult, but the guy wasted his time looking for the perfect water condition and that would count against him.).

Freestyle is about the show. The routine. Not a big toss and throw show (Backflips and Rolls only)

Well, I have never judged a ski event (and even if I had, I doubt I would keep repeating it in almost every post Harrison). My personal assessments seemed to have been fairly in line with the general group. I don't think it is rocket science work to be a judge, or a participant in the event (unless you are Parr maybe, lol).

What I can't understand, is why anyone would wish to try to take the fun out of it all.

Well, considering the fact that I was asked a question and opinion I felt the prudent thing would be to respond to tshank123 since he asked the question. I love a good healthy debate as long as there is something worth debating. I like Freestyle since I spent several years competing and working for our regional promoter. I enjoy talking about competition whether it is racing or freestyle since I have done both for almost 10 years. Heck, I have not enjoyed posting in any forum until friday, these debates have been fun and stimulating. Makes me want to even go out and ride.

And once again, some people make some good points, some people know it all and some people are morons.

Someone called me a while back and asked me why I did not post much here anymore, this is why.............

It is what it is.

Must have been a family member SQUALLING in the backround, could listen to the anouncer because of her, had to turn the freakin volume all the way down.

"Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-oooh!"
"Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-oooh!"
"Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-oooh!"

Wow, what an unbelievably annoying chick who found it necessary to "hoot" during the entire routine. This is why the hoot-owl is an endangered species.
