I end up filling the recessed areas around the engine mounts with two-part foam, to keep the excess water closer to the bilge pumps in the center and reinforced the bottom with a single sheet.

If you make yourself a paper template from the inside of the hull floor, it makes trimming the fiberglass easy.

White paint gets dirty real easy and the minute fuel is spilt in the bottom it washes off.

It gets dirty easily, and shows dirt easily but it's very easy to clean off. And I have never had any problems with the gloss rustoleum enamel washing off from gas before. I am going to brush it on... that stuff is pretty tough.

Jesus christ..... I decided I was going to go to West Marine and buy some epoxy so I didn't have to wait for us composites to ship it and lose this week of working on the ski. Well, without a port supply account, the epoxy was 94.99, the hardener was 39.99, and the west systems pump kit was 11.99. I used my port supply account, and walked out with all that for 109 and some change. West Systems sure is proud of their product. Damn!

And I got the 205 fast hardener, is that cool or should I have gotten the 206?

5 layers of 1708? That would be like an inch thick. Are you gonna use it to ram the other riders?

Only when you are out there ;)

Please weigh the hull when you're done.

Will do... she's going to be a tad heavy, but for the rec and surf riding I ask of it, it should fit the bill nicely.

And when I say I used 5 layers, I should have said I used 5 strips. I staggered them over top of each other to fit nicely into the curvature of the nose.... each strip was between 13-19" long, and all were 3.5-4" wide.

I am curious on the weight because I weighed my Squarenose (similarly reinforced) and it shocked me at 137lbs. (Hull only!)

And one thing I can say about the West epoxy versus the US composites epoxy is that the viscosity seems a bit thinner, and it smells better in the raw :D

Oh yeah... and the fast cure kicks ass... no more obscene wait times with heat lamps and heaters. I leaned my little heater in there, and in 30 minutes it felt as cured as could be. I was rather shocked. I think I may still get a quart of the slow hardener for the dog days of summer though....

Damn, you were raped by west marine.

I purchase all my fiberglass supplies at Fiberglass Coatings Inc. http://www.fgci.com/

They have a huge warehouse that's real close to me and supply all the major boat builders with low cost supplies.

If you have you mind set on spraying the bottom with paint, I would recommend using the Rust-Oleum appliance epoxy they sell at Home Depot.

Well, no glassing, but I lowered the exhaust tube, and my friend the BFH, a brass punch, and myself made the flange flush with the transom again. Hooray for Fox liking butseckzzz!
