You little cupcakes need to come ride in Michigan in the middle hof November.
screw that. I left Ohio to get away from the cold. Ill never go north again. Fall starts in August there. I'd die from shock if I got in water that cold.

Yeah I checked the water temp today and it's 79 already. It's quite brisk compared to what's normal for us. After the initial shock though, it's not bad. Thankfully it's supposed to warm up again by the end of this week so maybe that'll give us just a couple more weeks.

I have to poke fun... The plan was to be on the water by the end of last weekend and now a week later, there is still more to be done. haha
watch it john. Try chasing two kids while doing a turf job. It took me from 1:30 till 8:00 to get done with the padding, gunwhales, and dash. I felt like I had to stop every 20" to get something. You single guys have it easy. You can wrench all day and night if u choose. I even had a tear in the turf trying to rush a bit on one of the gunwhales! Thought I was gonna take a hammer to it.

Just put the kids in their cage, let the dog hang with you, and get to work...lol.

For all you guys calling us pansies for not wanting to ride when it's cold, I'd like to see how you guys handle 95° water on a sunny 100° day... We get out there and ride for hours, helmet and all.

I'm guessing it would be much more manageable than 35 degree water/25 degree air.

No ice, the water is not write cold enough and moving too fast.

I'm just jealous of your water temps and having to wait a while for my own Superfreak.

we get water temps of low 50's in the dead of winter. I wouldn't dare be out there in those temps...yet. With a new hull ready to ride I may push it this year. Having surf to ride in is s bit more fun than cold flat water. During winter that water is completely flat. Very few boat wakes to use so everything is a setup wake. Don't know if I could swing water temps in the 30's though. Our air temps get there at night with daytimes 40-50's for Dec-March. Usually by april water is low to mid 60's.

50 degree water is when it starts to get comfortable here. About May through November.
The right gear makes the difference for cold water riding.
I don't think I'll have my freak finished before March/April, so I'll miss most of the really cold riding. I'm not too heart broken about that. More time at the reloading bench and range instead.

Yeah I would imagine riding gear would make all the difference. My biggest fear is breaking down in water that cold. If I break down in the summer, I may be able to get a tow. If I can't get a tow, I'll be worn out by the end of the swim but that's the worst that will happen. If I break down in the winter with a 3/2 wetsuit, there are no boats so no tow and I can see serious problems with staying in sub 50 water for any extended time with such a lightweight suit, regular shoes, and regular gloves.

if your in sub 50 degree water and wearing a 3/2 then you most likely have the wrong gear. There is a temperature table for deciding on which thickness should be worn. Just dont ask me where that is. I think Slippery has one on their site or in their catalog

In cold water/weather, I either always ride with someone else or make sure I NEVER go more than 75 yards from shore.

I'm thinking about ditching my dry suit and getting a real deal cold water wet suit this year . I'm told that the newer suits are non restrictive . I think some of the wind surf and surf suits are where it is at . Dry suits a a pain to get on and off and you have to layer up bla bla bla . It takes 30 min to get every thing on only to have to use the bathroom 30 min later.

Nice looking build Greg

Thought I'd post some finished pics. Need to get some closeups of everything but was short on time with a cookout looming at 5:30 (it was 4:00 when I finished the ski!). I failed to take some pice along the way with the turf, bilge, ebox, pump and engine install. Turfing those Kawi style gunwhales takes some practice. They're a bit trickier than SJ's. I had a few "fubar's" with my turf job. Thankfully most of them are hidden or hardly noticeable.

The mid hull bilge was working fine in conjunction with the scupper. I really need to block off the trim tube until I get that situation resolved. I have some issues with getting my CATS trim to work, but that's all just getting the right hardware to make it work properly. I went back to my old redux nozzle/steering nozzle until then. DO YOU GUYS BLOCK OFF THE SIPHON PORT? HOW ABOUT ANOTHER COOLING PORT AS WELL? I've got my pump tapped for dual cooling and with the extra port on the redux nozzle open I was wondering if it was making a difference having the additional volume exiting the side of the nozzle (in addition to the siphon port open as well). I took it out for about 15 minutes after finishing today and was real happy with my setup. Looking to get a full day's riding in tomorrow. Water temp was fine. I was prepared to be shocked since it has been unseasonably cold here the last week. Hopefully my boys Waternut and Mcdog will be available for some riding time. It's been nearly 8 weeks since my last ride. I'm ready.

That turf looks great to me, it's way too easy to be critcal of turf but only you will ever see the flaws; to everybody else it will just be turf they didn't have to lay, which will always be awesome!!! :bigok:

I was actually going to returf mine today but decided to fix my trim cable and swap out my steering stud instead. I've been avoiding this job for months now, lol.

Got a decent bit of riding time in yesterday. I'm real stoked with how the 'Freak rides and handles. It was super easy to jump from my RN to this hull. It has all the benefits of the RN handling with more stability, quicker handling, and I can get the rear end loose (predictably) for whipping around on setups. Going slow was no problem and I was able to get up to speed and chase a few boat wakes. I used to have a helluva time getting my RN to get loose and get it to hook back up for setups. It was real unpredictable doing this. I was riding without a limiting rope so it was treacherous trying to enter the water nose first so reports on that will have to wait. I was able to get the nose up and down easily. My 760 flat top seems to be plenty of engine for this hull. I was constantly wanting more power with the RN. Gonna sell some parts and save pennies for a mag pump next spring. Sucks to be getting colder. Waternut and Mcdog got some "saddle time" in as well. They can provide some unbiased feedback.
