I did mine very similar to sanos.... when I built the ski , I reinforced in that area , but I started to pull the two pieces of the hull apart winching it on to the trailer ..

Well I stumbled upon a crack in my hull this evening. It's tough to see but it's right above that abrupt turn in the nose. It's not all the way through but I'm pretty sure it's not just the paint. My guess is this crack has more to do with handling the ski roughly or hitting something and less to do with riding hard or stress cracking. I may throw a layer of biax over it before Daytona as a quick and dirty repair to ensure I don't trash it down there.

Since this happened in the ugliest section of the hull, I'm curious what people would think of cutting out that section of the hull and smoothing the transition. Would changing that section really affect the handling? If so, do you think it would affect it positively or negatively? I'm thinking positively since it smoothes the transition but changing the rocker on such a short hull might make it really squirrelly. Just want to hear opinions on this...

Pretty sure it was impact damage of some sort. Only the first ply was cracked but all the others were disbonded. I decided against the temp biax repair and ground out the damage and scarfed in 7 layers of 8oz weave. Should be good and solid if I start dragging my feet and don't do anything else to it.

I can't remember if I said it or not but I'm back to my deep scoop grate again and it's working fine. After I moved the engine back, everything turned around for the best. The ski no longer pitches me but it will slide out if I get going too fast for too long. Mcdog paced me once with his GP1200 and I cruise comfortably around 25mph now.

All done. Once a decent shine got on the repair, I can see I could've added a couple more small layers to make it look better but I'm fairly happy with my repair. The paint job is not as shiney and smooth as the rest of the ski because I was using low pressure and light paint to avoid having to mask everything off...yep lazy.

Daytona carnage... First thing I did before the ski even hit water was backfire the engine which blew the hose off the exhaust outlet and the exhaust outlet off the hull.

I can't help myself when I see a nice wave, I have to jump and it cost me my CATS trim and most likely caused the cracks just above the scupper because I slammed into the ground once. I also just about ripped the pole out of the ski with a couple accidental subs. One of the front bolts chewed through the fiberglass and the other one was well on it's way. Not totally sure how I cracked the area by the tray but it's pretty bad.

and I thought Pablo was the one that had too much to drink this weekend....

Anyway, here is a short clip from my last ride on Sunday. The b pipe chamber to waterbox coupler blew off and I guess that generated so much pressure in the engine bay that it blew both of the hood straps clean off the hull. I put a little slow motion at the end so you can watch all the fumes blow out.

PS - I think that was sportfish jumping the wave at the moment of explosion.

dayummmm John. I didn't get any reports of the carnage. Hate to hear that...good news is I've got Berky's # on speed dial. You were launching the hell out of that ski this weekend. Wonder why it cracked:scratchchin:?

If I was to buy a stunt hull, Sano's would be my first choice. Grab it and have two john-boy. You've got urs dialed in, it would be easy the second go round.

I got the whole ski stripped down yesterday and started glassing some repairs last night. I put only a few thin layers on the gunwale before I ran out of mixed epoxy and decided it was a good time to stop. I think I'm going to try and run the pole bracket up top with a plate on the under side. I always knew the old mount wasn't good but I couldn't think of another way when I first built it. I like Sanoman's idea for the bracket mount but I don't really want to build up the area quite so much. Maybe I can shave the sides some to make it flatter and then reinforce on the inside.

You are right about building up the area sooo much.l can say l really didn't know any better at the time.lf l had to do it all over l would use your idea about shaving down the sides. But having a plate on the inside is needed.

On a side note, did you see high rollers ad in Wet Racer? What a POS...........l guess anyone can pay for an ad.
