@OCD Solutions You catch that dinosaur yet?

We haven’t seen it in over 2 months now so we stopped putting the trap out.

I did pick up this 3 legged Soft Shell today so I believe she has been in the neighborhood for a lot longer than we realize.

Some dogs got ahold of this soft shell recently but I think he’ll pull through.

I decided I had enough of the cheap impeller tools that fold over and collapse after a few hard uses so I made my own on the manual mini-mill. I also added a support sleeve for extra preventive measures, cut it in half on a band saw at work to make it a 2 piece easy to install and remove addition. The photo with the three tools lined up show the difference between the typical size and the Sasquatch sized version I made :D Incidentally the center tool is a remake I did of the off the shelf tools that come with some impellers but with thicker walls...still didn't hold up too well. So in a fit of disappointment I remade the whole works of them. One fits a Hooker impeller to precision and the other fits a Skat-Trak impeller, there is about a 0.110" difference in the socket sizes.

I’m still gathering parts and doing research for my next couple builds and stumbled across a YouTube video showcasing the Fireball Tool Mega Square.

If you haven’t heard or seen these yet, I highly recommend checking them out, especially if you work with aluminum like I do and conventional magnetic squares are useless.

I ordered the 8” Mega Square and it just showed up tonight.

These things are awesome and every fabricator can benefit regardless of skill level.

I was up at 5am finishing up welding the frame for the new enclosure for my milling machine so I could do a big cleanup before the in-laws arrive.

Next step is to weld up the actual enclosure. I plan to run flood coolant in this design so it has to be water tight. Note the sloped bottom to promote proper draining.

I just finished letting the paint cure over the weekend and put to use a little portable bench vise I made over the course of last week. This thing is going to be used heavily, I never knew how much benefit there is in having something like this until today while doing an impeller swap on the spot. I do remember saying to myself many times how I wish I had a portable vise for other jobs too though lol. This thing is built like a tank too, it's a small 5" vise sitting on a 1/4" square tube with a 5/8" thick base plate lol but the heavy build made the whole process solid and reliable for some heavy torquing to break that impeller free. I'm really happy I made this little basic tool now that I have used it :) Oh before I forget, it can be mounted vertically too. I put a second through hole in the square tube for the hitch pin, this way I can have the vise on a vertical mount instead of flat. I'll try to get a pic of that tomorrow when I have some good sunlight again.

I ended up fitting a receiver tube onto my welding table so I could quick swap tools I don't use all that often. The hitch vise is a must have imo

Another job that took a small bit of time but I spun out a set of improved water screws for my B-pipe. No more set screws breaking off at the ultra thin socket walls. A jamnut combo for additional support and if the hex head strips I can lock the two nuts together for a secondary removal option :)

I welded up a stand for my buffing/polishing wheel out of scraps from the shed. Sick of chasing it around the bench when using it. I never hard mounted it as I didn't want to give up the bench room. Tested on the swing arm of a KX I just finished restoring. Bonus points if you know what the base of the stand is from!
