A co-worker pulled up beside me in the parking lot today and stuffed some scrap aluminum in my truck.

This is fabrication on my home not necessarily me being a home fabricator. My wife wanted a pool but I talked her down to a hot tub. so a pad had to be built for the tub. That pad led to the idea of putting in a paver patio for the backyard. I wanted it raised up since our yard is kinda mushy. So a lot of wall block was in order. Waiting on pavers at this time. Once all this is done I get to build a new wider set of stairs to my covered porch to make my wifes grand vision come true. And all of this work means I will probably have to do a pool next year instead of this year. 20200601_202403.jpg20200604_130603.jpg20200604_144756.jpg20200617_204823.jpg

I built a live trap this morning to hopefully catch the Snapping turtle that’s been eating all our fish and other turtles.

She started off eating their back legs but now, all our larger turtles are missing so we fear she’s moved on to eating them whole or hopefully just scared them enough that they moved on to other ponds and might come back once she’s gone.

Not bad for $15 worth of cage wire and some scrap aluminum I had laying around.

The trap door is a simple weighted hinge and backstop to start but I can add a catch if needed. The idea was that the brute can force her way in and not get back out but the smaller ones can escape out the bottom so they don’t get trapped in there with her.

Meet Lilith, she like long peaceful swims and eating turtle feet.

Here’s one of our double amputee turtles that’s been missing now for over a month.

In other news, I found a new supplier of aluminum with much better pricing so I picked up 3 sheets of 1/8” and tackled 3 different projects.

The first was to rebuild my organizer rack to fit the new bench. It does away with my rag dispenser but increases my tray count from 15 to 24.

I still have to fab and attach the 48 little 3/8” strips that all the trays will set on but all the holes are pre-drilled so it should be a fast add.

The second project was to rebuild my gun drawer. The new design is just a little bit better and now matches the rest of its surroundings.

The third project will come in stages but I got all the pieces cut to re-build my CNC enclosure out of aluminum so I can run flood coolant at some point.

The envelope will be a little bit deeper and a few inches wider as well to allow for proper doors and for all the mechanisms to be within that envelope at all times.

We seem to have a pretty handy group of guys who are always fabbing up something so rather than blow up the other threads, how about a spot to post up the side projects that we all want to share?

I recently completed a Grizzly G0704 Mill CNC conversion but still have tons of little things to build and tinker with. First on my list has been a proper misting system to cool and lubricate my bits during bigger cuts. Since they want $350 for $100 of parts, I chose to build my own. The reservoir was the easy part but it took me several attempts before I was able to come up with a working mixing valve.

It finally came to me last night and this is what I ended up with this morning;

Not OCD. This operator failed to install set screw. Which wouldn’t have been to bad but the failure to properly measure tooling started an amazing chain of events. 12 shifts of down time and 34k in hard cost. Be safe out there.

Adapter plates to bolt a 255hp rotax into a kawasaki stx hull. The pump adapter I had help cutting since I don't have a lathe.

That should be an awesome ride. The stx hull is great. Yes a little wet compared to the ultra but it tracks really good. Just make sure the metal plate that gets glued down were the drive shaft cones through also get screwed down. I guess that means if your using that method. I would personally try to eliminate that and mold in a flange that’s a rubber hose can clamp too like the yamahas n SDs to where it connects to bulkhead with bearing housing.

I'm excited about getting it done, this hull is getting the full workup with pneumatic trim tabs and the doo 159mm pump with trim. For simplicitys sake, I am going to run the seadoo carbon seal and just fabricate a thru hull tube and run it like a rxt-x does. It should be close to 80 mph when I finish it.

My ultra hull is going to get a 400ish hp vortech supercharged kawi motor if the rings and head gasket ever ships. Its getting a 14 vane skat 155 and will also be an 75-80 mph ski depending on how aggressive I get with the handling package.

Very good idea on using the carbon seal transfer. I have a 2011 ultra 300x that I’m in the middle of putting back together. It ran but the inside was just a mess. Pulled engine out to clean and repaint, clean intercooler (was packed up pretty good with dried salt), repair the oil cooler bc a fitting rotted away. Basically turned it into a 310 version with brass fittings. Everything is going back together now though just in time for winter, lol. Got my SJ also that I have 2 builds forms here. Totally over did myself this summer, lol
