We had a small Tornado go through our area on Thursday about 20 minutes before we were to leave for Atlanta. Ended up losing a bunch of trees and power in a short 2 minute span. One of our oak trees snapped off and fell across the power line and blocked the main road and our driveway. I burnt 4 tanks of gas in my chainsaw before we got everything cleared enough to leave the property.

So, I spent the last two days cleaning up the mess. Got a little over a cord of oak firewood and enough leaves and branches to keep a bonfire going for 35 plus hours and counting.

The worst part was that we were going to Atlanta for my wife’s foot surgery so she’s laid up in bed for a couple weeks recovering and can’t help at all.

Everything is back to “like it never happened” status as of 5pm.

One of the trees that fell had a nest with 6 baby birds in it. I cut the section loose and managed to round up 4 babies and put them back in the nest. One was able to fly away immediately so they were at a good age to survive the event. I monitored the nest and found that the last 3 babies all flew away this afternoon.

We almost had a murder scene but thankfully the neighbors cat was more curious than hungry. I was going to mount the log house up off the ground today but found the babies all flew away so I didn’t have to bother.

Usually I plant my garden at my other place here with mixed results, it also requires a lot of traveling back and forth, this year I decided to do a garden at the house , not huge maybe 35 ft by 65 ft , the bonus is that much grass no longer needs cutting, win win.

I chopped it up with an ATV disc pulled behind my zero turn then tilled it up, I got it all planted today with corn, Tomatoes, bell pepper, collano peppers ( Poblanos that are not hot ) squash , Zucchini , radishes, lettuce, okra and the rest of the area I planted Watermelons , tons of them.

I use a post hole digger to dig down about a ft and plant the tomatoes deep , I am also using a new composting system where you just dig holes between the plants , fill the holes with what you want to compost aqnd cover it with dirt, much easier system.., we will see what we will see .

I spent a lot of time charting sun patterns to get the best location , plants like corn , watermelons and squash don't do well with less than 6 hrs of sunlight a day, I believe I have about 8 hrs of direct sunlight in this spot and some really good dirt.

Stupid GMC oil cooler lines.. Got a whole 3 years out of it before it started leaking again (at the crimp) Was a 4 hour job the first time. This time I dropped the front diff and cut the lines in half to remove them. Was about to be a 90 min job... Then snapped off the new bolt that it came with and spent the next 2 hours getting it out. If I didn't tow multiple times a year I would just block the damn thing off. :)

Broken bolt on the left. *Once everything was installed I hosed the engine from the bottom up with engine degreaser and washed it.

After my 3rd attempt trying to get the nut to stay welded on I ground it down so I could get more weld onto the broken bolt. (very awkward spot with no room)

Bolt removed. The nut crumbled apart after breaking it loose, but with needle nose vice grips and 1/16 of a turn at a time..

Used the old bolt that I took out. But didn't want to take any chances so I chased the threads.

This makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Nice work.

I’ve got a 2018 Chevy 5.3 that’s been sweating at the crimp on one of the oil cooler lines.

Ever think of just running AN fittings and lines instead?

Mine started off as a small weep. Then after 3 months it was leaving stains in my driveway. If you have a 4wd unbolt the front diff and let it hang down. This opens up a ton of space and keeps you from having to remove the motor mount. I did not think about AN fittings! But I was thinking about cutting the crimps off, flaring it and double hose clamping it.

2wd for me. And I spent a few days standing in the engine bay doing a cam swap and bumping into those lines with my legs. I should have just pulled them off for the cam job.
