taylor and jerry obviously as they are two of the original guys that mixed good wave riding with big jumps...

not to be a dick but like i said doing the same turn everytime before the wave is even breaking doesn't do it for me..gotta mix it up..throw in some big floaters where u air drop into the flats..actually put the bottom of your ski on the lip frontside and backside when the wave is actually overhead and hollow, if the wave has a shoulder on it do a full cutback where u rebound off the whitewater...make the most out of every section that comes along...also riding around at 5mph in between waves dosnt make for very exciting viewing..gotta keep your speed up.it seems like everyone is just going through the motions...u need to put some straps in your ski zak it will help your style allot although i haven't seen u ride in awhile..a few of those pics from peru looked like u were attacking the lip...you get an A for effort..

watch scott watkins and learn..see how after he destroys one section he is immediately looking for his next opportunity to blow the top off or send a reentry??..also watch when he lays into a bottom turn when hes setting up..most people approach the wave at a 90deg angle do their "slash" and then bury the nose so they have to grab a handful of throttle and end up coming out doing a tailstand just about and loose all their momentum..its the little things that count..

I do agree with you there. First time tryin surf rolls(i ride mostly flat) was a breeze. I threw my first one in like2 feet of water off the first wave I saw and wasn't in the water more than 10 seconds. Next surf trip out I was ridein away. But surf ridein.... That's another story... I can roll but can't surf ride for :):):):)!!!ill tip over goin straight sometimes. The last couple times out I've bean concentratein on surf riden... But my ski hasn't let me so much... Lol ...thaught I was jokein about learnin me? Lol but the last freeride I saw taylor huckin reentry flips on the xfs and it was nuts!!
Taylor has been working on them..

I think a well rounded rider has to be able to do everything. I just hate the fact that almost everyone only focuses on jumps out the back. It dosnt matter how many flip variations you can do if u can't put your ski on a rail. So many "pros" focus only on their jumps and totally ignore the fundamentals of riding a ski. Also nobdy seems to have a sense of flow or realizes that u can actually do more than one move on a wave Most guys do the exact same "slash" no matter what the wave is doing. The possibilities of waveriding on a ski are pretty much endless but all u see is guys doing the same frontside turn before the wave is even breaking and then just compleatly pass up the other sections that could have been utilized. The wave should dictate the type of turn you do not just wait for a section that is easiest to turn on.

once u realize that u can put your ski pretty much anywhere on the wave as long as you are committed and you put the bottom of your ski at the same angle as the wave/lip it gets allot easier..you have to be able to manhandle your ski in order to put it over on its side...if the lip isnt hitting the bottom of your ski it is going to deflect it and set u off balance...the key is to fully commit to a move because any hesitation and your timing will be off and u will either pearl or go out the back of the wave... surf riding is all about throttle control, weight distribution and timing as well as being fully committed to whatever u are trying..having a set of footstraps doesn't hurt either so you can "cheat" and stick your shoulder/butt in the water to recover from stuff that you didnt hit perfect and still ride out...

matt..the one i just posted???...

hey specialfx..i was wondering...that thing looks like its got some power..also the fact that it was filmed in like 91 means he at least had the choice to ride a 650..that was his WF freestyle ski..must have had some snap..probably running total loss??..ive never ridden a mod 550..im assuming if u kept em wound up they did alright?

What movie are we talking about here?

If I recall, that was only a slightly warmed over 550 (pipe, prop, milled head, scoop, plate, bars, etc..) It felt pretty strong back then because we didn't know any better! I did all my early surf riding on a 440 superstock and I felt it hit hard.

yes very true andrew. i will be putting straps in my ski very soon. ive been kinda being the "anti strap" like that i would try and do things in surf stance with my right foot in my hold and left foot in my front foot hold..... thats gret and all until i realized that you just cant put the ski sidways in the lip like your shots. my right shin bangs into the side of the ski and then to counter balance my right foot being in the hold, my left foot has to be in the front left of the tray.... also banging my shin into the side. once i rode taylors ski with straps it was all over..... i always knew it was bad but i would force it to work. with straps being centered in the tray.... yep... thats where its at.

my surf riding has improved alot like im not afraid of going critical but once i get straps it will be better. you know i come from a surf background aswell so i know whats going on and how things should be done. but i will say im now riding in surfstance 247 now doing SS flips and rolls but its still nice to flip with my right foot in the hold to get better faster rotation in moto stance.

i will also say it was a pleasure watching special fx ripping the hell out of the lip. good show my friend and great style.
