i would get a prop intake grate and ride plate first ur gonna need all that with the 650 motor anyway
prop is really the single biggest differance mod you can do
when you put o a better prop you can really feel the differance
i agree exactly the same experiance i had with a friends ski
go for the rebuild its worth it
the only other thing it could be is bad porting but im guessing rebuild is in order
im told all you need from the 650 ebox is the regulater or rectifier i dont remember which but other than that everything will work
and obviously the 2 yellows and two greens match up but idr the rest you are using a 550sx ebox right? (post 90)
you can find em but they cost about 100 for the carbs and 50-100 for the mani 40 for spacers to make them fit without the mani (if you can find them)and you have to chnge the cable too if you have the 38mm carb (three bolts on top) but have you looked at the for sale section?

reguar BN's dont have removeable jets i would do a rebuild or just experiment with the needle spring if the pop off pressure is too low (spring does not close the needle/seat valve) so fuel just leaks down into the motor and when you leave it sitting for a while and it dries out
440 pump has the impeller attached to the drive shaft and the 440 pump is sposed to be better for top end but its still arguable a friend of mine gps'd his ski with a 440 pump then put a 550 pump n it same impeller pitch and it was 3 mph faster top end but idk how accurate that experiment was

definatly a good starter better ski than most people start on
just run 40:1 pre-mix with GOOD oil like maxima super-m never use wal mart or gas station oil lol
it sgonna need at least a carb rebuild the pulse line is the fuel line that goes from the right side of the carb to the bottom end and dont worry about the cracks unless they are real bad id leave them alone and the carb is a mikuni bn 38 just stock but it does have an adapter for an aftermarket...
we just put another shaft in it i did all the glass up front and on the sides and replaced the motor mounts he put the motor back in and hes back on it now
in an x2 brought to me by a friend for some fiberglass work the whole front was broken off (i sholda taken pics) all four motor mounts where broken and exu outlet ripped out (???) oh well he said it had a pretty hot motor in it his dad used to race and this was in one of his limited race skis...
