I've been cutting this week and getting close to being done with the glass. I modeled the tray after my Rickter, it is almost the same width and depth, I also cut back and reshaped the rear or the bunks and cut about 8.5 inches out of the stock pole.
I started out on an old js550 and have always wanted to have another one BUT it had to have a few changes. I just picked up a 1981 js440 and I'm in the process of bringing it back to life as a fun freeride ski. Mostly I wanted a wider tray and shorter hand pole. I bought the ski for $120 bucks...
I spent some time on TC ski with the 701/155 pump. It is awesome! Seriously awesome. I'm running a 1100/skat 148 in my edge and his ski just makes you smile and ride. If I were surf only it would be exactly the setup I would run. FYI, he is running a 7/10 impeller on the stock 155 pump.
Haven't ridden one on flat water yet but rode one in the surf last weekend and loved it. Went into the finals at Grayland open on it after my stator crapped out and won my class. Very stable, fun hull.
Predator for surf. Edge or superfreak for lakes. if you get a SF go short or you will wish you had later!!!
SuperFreak is by far the best flat water ski I have ever ridden, I really like my Edge but the freak is a better flat water hull imo.
I'm running a pump gas 10mil 1100, mag 148, pfp and enhancer. I like it a lot!!
I recently switched from a total loss to the charging system and didn't feel like I lost that much performance.
Really comes down to budget. Bob is not a bad choice for flat water stuff and they are very inexpensive, down side is that I think they kind of suck for anything else so if you ever travel to bigger lakes to chase boats you might be disappointed.
I like my Rickter FR2 a lot in surf and overall in general it is a great hull. If I were looking at a new surf hull today I would want to ride the Krash predator and maybe the FP1 before plopping down my cash.
For anyone that has not met Zack or his brother Jake, I have got to say they are first rate guys that push a product they believe in but will also offer up their skis for rides to anyone interested. They don't b.s. and stand with a company that has built skis that many riders really like. I...
All good info you are getting here, just remember if you are riding the lake there is more than just going out and doing some twists and flips. Some hulls are awesome at freestyle but not so great at chasing boats.
