Donations, Advertisements and General Site Expense Info

Rob spent years working/admin at PWCT. It was a personal interest to act as a medium for PWC riders to communicate and meet others with a similar interest. The environment was so "confortable" and friendly that it grew to what it was just as you joined. Robs time become more scarce and it came to a point that he was made an offer he could not refuse.

Now the profit comes into play: SBT. Product/Name recognition. Burn the SBT logo into the members mind so as to make it the first thought when something goes wrong.

This site is a duplication of what PWCT was prior to the sale. There are no products being sold, and no revenue/profits being made. All funds/donations go directly to hosting and relevant site expenses. No one gets paid, that I know of, so it is therefore a "not for profit" site.

We/they put the time and resources into making this community conductive to its purpose.

Actually the BS in this sport is the competition side, which there is only a small number of members here who race or do freestyle........ Probably less than 20 active users here.......... The BS comes from the IJSBA for the most part, at the Regional level there is very little BS to deal with........ If you want to go and read the BS about the sport you are at the wrong site, go to PWCToday and hit the racing section, there is post after post and thread after thread talking about all the BS handed out by the IJSBA.

The BS on the site comes from the Members who cannot or will not respect the other members....... We have all been guilty of this at one time or another, I know I have......... You just proved that you are just as guilty, I dont think I have told you that you are a f ukin joke......... I could start acting like a kid and start trashing your name, but I try not to stoop to that level. And just how am I making my own bed????

Honestly, If I was such a dikhead I would just ban you, but that is not how I play here.......... If you dont like it here, then just leave, all you seam to do now is bitch about every single thing. If you want to be part of this site, then that is up to you, you make this site what you want it to be.

Oh, like Paul said, Blowsion does do alot for the community......... For some reason they have chosen not to be part of this one offically, Honestly, It does not make much sense but I am not going to loose any sleep over it.

I appreciate all that you have done for the site and the sport. You have done far more than I have and many other people for that matter. :arms: :woot: :arms: :woot:

Let me ask you this though. You all say that you have nothing to gain from investing into this site, but I really don't understand that. To be honest I don't know that much about the ownership of forums so maybe you can educate myself and others about this.

Take for an example Rob and PWCToday. I joined PWCToday about 2 months before it was sold to SBT so I don't know that much about the history of the site, but I do know that Rob supposedely received a great deal of $$$$ from the sale of the site.

Hypothetically speaking if you said I could receive part ownership by paying the $35 a month and putting up with the bull$hit then I think I would definitely take that opportunity. Owning a site that is definitely on the rise like this one seems like a great investment opportunity to me. (This is not a suggestion to allow joint ownership of the site. It is just an example:biggrin: )

I guess what I am trying to say is that this seems like a great investment opportunity for you guys so why do you really care about that $35 a month.

Once again I can't thank you all enough for what you have done for the sport. If I am wrong and there is absolutely no investment opportunity in a site like this then please explain that to me. From what I have seen it seems like you all have a lot to gain from the success of this site.

Rob charged about $180.00 a month or so for advertisements, he sold the site for a nice chunk of change, which was based off the money he was bringing in each month......... www.x-h2o.com is a not for profit site, meaning we are not making money, if we were, we would be having to file taxes........ I personally dont want that........

So, if we were to sell the site, which it is not for sale, I dont see how you could put a price on it.......

It is not about $35.00 a month (3 ways each), it is principle, but if we had to we would and have..... you are still 75.00 short........ if we did not have 3 paying advertisers then it would be $60.00 per month for each of us, that tranlates to $720.00 per year plus the hours each of us puts into the site.........

So like someone said, are you gonna go ask someone if you can cut their grass and pay them to let you cut it???

I doubt it, especially since there is more than one person involved in this one.

But there is no stock, it is not a corporation. So if they do, who cares? It is not like they are attempting to make mad profit from donations/ads. They just want to make sure they can provide awesome hosting, rather than the slug speeds and no attachments on which this site was founded.

This whole thing was started by someone simply suggesting that if you enjoy this site, you should support the companies that support it. And if they don't, why not ask them why? Maybe the company would realize that people do pay attention to the banners on the top of the pages. That way both parties win, forum member get to enjoy the site without having to donate to it all the time and companies get rewarded for helping out the forum members.

The notion of supporting a company who supports your interests is nothing new. Take the suggestion at face value, not everything has hidden agendas. The point is that there are some companies that get a lot of free advertisement from this site and it wouldn't hurt for them to give a little back.

trust me ive seen this stuff turn a site upside down and inside out real quick...... donations from members is nice but it can cause a huge riff........ paid advertisers is nice but feathers get ruffled quick when said advertiser product gets (even a legitimate) poor review on the site by a memeber........... best thing ive seen as a money generator is raffles....... raffle a motor or a hull or some parts that have been donated by someone (ie// dont steal it out of pauls shop cuz that means he just payed the bill for the rafle lol) and have a monthly raffle...... have a free ride dinner everytime u have a freeride....... charge 10 bucks a plate (all proceeds to the site) and 5 bucks a plate if u bring food (ie// a tray of mac and cheese) for the dinner........ have event raffles for the junior life guards like u do ....... but also have one or 2 special items with special tickets that are support the site raffles.......... there are ways to go about it that work alot better than donations and advertising if your not looking to turn this into a money making site.............. but i still stand behind my dis-taste (to put it nicely) for companies that know full well there products are being plastered all over the forums and refuse to try and give back to keep the forums alive........ hence "DIKBAGS"

I'm taking a break from the site.

But first:
It costs $179/month for the server, plus some domain name charges and software like vbulletin/flashchat/etc.

The only thing I/we are asking for is for those costs to be covered, and we were hoping the companies that are making money from x-h2o would like to help cover the costs and enjoy the benefit of a banner ad to boot.

I don't like worrying about the server money, and would rather have enough advertisers to cover it.

So far members have contributed tons to keep us running and I/we appreciate that, and so do all the regular members that haven't and the guests also. Otherwise, we'd still be on the $10/month host that we started out on and response would be crap, limited attachments, etc etc.

Honestly, Paul/Harrison/myself just keep the site running, we don't ask for anything in return except for everyone to respect each other and enjoy themselves. We never will. I will ride until I'm dead, I have a full-time job that I enjoy, have an awesome family that I love to death and are my top priority, and all this drama online is distracting to me, so I'll take a break.

BTW, if I need to grow thicker skin, so be it, but when I put so much effort into something only to see the choices we try to make ridiculed, torn apart, nit-picked, it gets to me after a while.
