I did the above, realized I had a little water and installed plugs where I drilled the first holes. Just open plugs every time I head home for the day and it helps. You can get by without refoaming....if it's not too water logged.

I think the best option is the cable you can buy from X-metal. I run one on my fx-1 with full x-2 pump. Can't go wrong with a NEW cable the correct length and the right ends for $70ish.

Like others mentioned the X metal will work fine as long as you have a strap setup and not latches. You'll also need to setup it for two holes instead of one, which is just a little cutting really.
