if your working on a 750 there is a 4 pin connector on the left hand side of the ebox for the start stop switch. I take the steering cable off the bars and pull it through the handpole as I take it out. I take the throttle cable off the carbs and take it out with pole. I found it easier to take...

the 650 flywheel is lighter than the 750 flywheel but you have to run the 650 electronics with it. If it runs id leave it alone. if it fails you could go to a lightened 750 flywheel and switch to a 750 stator and msd or 98-03 cdi.

dont forget to cut back your plug wires. Mine had very similar issues as yours when I needed a trim a few years back. It would run great untill I fell or did a 180 and loaded the motor up. Just a thought and it never hurts to make sure your plug wires are good before trouble shooting odd problems

try cleaning the stop switch and 4 pin connector for it by the ebox. Also try cutting back the wires. Are you sure the carbs arent getting water in them?
