I'd think you would want to embrace having a event where both groups of riding can go on. I don't know of any other event where there is surf riding and flatwater, and the fact you don't have to do anything to setup the flatwater part seems pretty good to me.
Now instead of only having one group...

Surf guys are going to be at the beach and flatwater guys will be at the lake. Don't see what the big deal is.

That pump is a aluminum housing with titanium stator section which is lighter than having stainless
