My guess there is that they are using some sort of epoxy based paint. Gelcoat just does not work well with SMC. So, to be fair, no I am not sure on the '08 and up (and perhaps its just the black ones???) But, it is not likely to be Gel. FWIW my experience comes from working in boat building...

Sounds good. My advice above was assuming you are keeping the 61x cases. If you want to do dual-carbs right, get a set of 62t cases and have them ported too. I'm sure Chase has some lying around and probably manifold and carbs too. Lot more choices and availability for 62t-based carb setups...
