Yeah I understand by law the vin on the back plate should be there. But like i told the judge, this ski was built for the surf. If you read the code for what im charged for... "
No person shall intentionally deface, destroy, or alter
the motor number, other distinguishing number, or identification mark
of a vehicle required or employed for registration purposes without
written authorization from the department, nor shall any person place
or stamp any serial, motor, or other number or mark upon a vehicle,
except one assigned thereto by the department."
Like you guys are all saying. Highly doubtful, but still completely possible that my vin on the back was indeed still there after the scupper valve was installed and it came off after being ridden very hard in the surf. There for no vin was "intentionally" removed. So technically if i bought another motor and swapped the stickers that would also be illegal. The cop wasnt trippen about 1 of the vins being messed up. He was worried everyone of them was tampered with. There wouldnt have even been a court case if it was illegal to remove just 1 vin because i would instantly be guilty. NO point in having a vin inspector come out and hack up my ski looking for another vin, it would be irrelevant. But the judge knows absolutely nothing about jet skis and laws for them, Only what I quoted above. All i need to do is get concrete evidence proving that my only vin on the inside of the hull is where it is supposed to be. which should prove that the ski is legit.(a couple of you have sent me their vins glued into the inside of the hull in the exact location mine was located in). I know im in the worst situation possible but i cant just let them take my ski after this. Especially since I saved up for days to get it and havent even ridden it yet. Thank you guys a bunch! All of this information is more than helpful to me! And as far as the pic saying where the vins should go, technically there is no real information that i need. I need it to say "it comes glued in, in a vertical position located in the engine bay on the top right." or something like that to help me out.
