One tip to add......before you epoxy the base back in......first position the shortened pole back into the pivot point with base and bolt in and then align the pole and base up perfectly and put two or three rivets in place to lock in the position....then take it out, remove rivets and epoxy...

If the whole length of the red cable is getting hot....u can be sure the battery is pushing a crap load of amps out....meaning the starter motor is binding or engine is tighter than normal so check that. or, if only a localised part of the cable is getting hot...either just after the battery...

That would put your pop off at 21 psi, which imo is way too low.....it will likely blubber a bit before pulling hard if at all, and foul plugs too. you need 1,5 N/ S with 95 gram springs...

have you checked the compression in both cylinders....are they the same ?......next idea is to trim back the spark plug leads to ensure proper connections are made

Are you sure its not the speed plate that is warped......check it on on a pane of glass or kitchen granite top......happened to me when I bolted the carbs on to it.....solution was to slowly tighten each bolt on opposing sides until it seated itself perfectly flat onto the manifold

more likely that your bendix is seized due to lack of lubrication, or the brass bushing in the flywheel cover is destroyed somehow....do you still have the little spring in place that sits inside that bush ?....how do the teeth look on both the flywheel and the bendix...gnarly damaged or pretty...
