It looks like those domes were made for big bore sleeves, possibly. That would at least explain why the o-rings would sit so close to the outer edge of the dome.

You could experiment on your own by adding washers behind your prop to move it away from the stator vanes. I don't see that being an improvement for a stock pump, though. A 12 vane hooks up quicker, so I can see the need for some riders to add a very small amount of hesitation to their hookup to...

C'mon. Sure you can. I've seen guys who transport their boat trailers from the launch to their beach for storage. They drive with the trailer strapped UNDER the boat. On second though, just put a spim coat of thickened epoxy on your hull every few months. Way easier.
