If you cut more than about 2" off the bottom of the pole the bend on the pole won't match where the hood curves so it will look funny. I have -4 and short steering, I wish it was -2 most of the time.

Okay, someone gave me a "drycharger" for my K&N so I tried it last weekend. I don't think it helped a damn bit as far as water ingestion is concerned and I definitely lost a few MPH on the top end, very similar to the OEM Yamaha F/A without the pluses.

They do. I don't think it would be an issue in the handlepole but I wouldn't use it in an engine bay. Pool noodles break down after a while too, even without chemical or much UV exposure.

I'd guess he had a groove machined in the head to hold the compression orings and has sealant to seal up the water passages.
