Ideally, the pump shaft and midshaft should be perfectly aligned. Shimming the pump is the most common way to do this, but the entire driveline needs to be aligned to reduce stress on individual parts, like motor mounts, splines, midshaft bearings/housing, and pump shaft/bearings.

I'm sticking with it being an alignment problem. The shaft has to flex if misaligned, and that seems like the most likely area (near the point where the threads start). At 4-8000rpm that's a lot of flexing and fatigue for the metal to endure. Even a spring that's made to flex will eventually...

Where are you ordering parts that takes 3 weeks?? My local dealer usually has my parts in 3 days. Yam vulcanizes the rubber while it's in the housing, giving it a good bond.
